Year 5

In year 5, we explore and discuss amazing pieces of literature, such as: Wolf Brother, Beowulf and The Highwayman. These high quality texts enable the children to develop their vocabulary and produce a range of superb pieces of writing. In IPC, we cover areas such as: ‘Myths and Legends’, ‘Space Explorers’ and ‘Going Global’. Children have the opportunity to enrich their learning through creative projects and educational workshops. Year 5 is a pivotal year in applying and developing our understanding of maths, whereby we develop a variety of strategies that will enable all children to tackle a multitude of challenges. Throughout the curriculum, reading and writing skills are developed to ensure a broad, balanced and effective education. To complement the academic skills in year 5, we have a deep focus on the specific Art skills to encourage the creative mind-set.

Curriculum Targets

Please find attached the targets year 5 are working towards this year. The work towards achieving these targets will be covered in school but you can also help your child by checking their homework and looking for evidence of their targets in what they do. Also please ensure they read to an adult every night.
