Year 6
Welcome to Year 6!
The children have been working really hard in all areas of the curriculum. Each half term we focus on a new topic from the IPC and our learning in English and other areas of the curriculum will all be based around this theme.
Our Learning
In year 6 this half term our topic will be based around the theme 'What a Wonderful World'. Our learning will focus on the structure of the Earth, different biomes and landscapes as well as looking at different cultures and celebrations around the world.
Our class text is 'The London Eye Mystery'. A mystery story based around a young man called Ted. He works hard along with his sister to try and solve the disappearance of his cousin Salim. We will be writing in a range of genres and styles to develop the skills we have been learning already this year.
This text, alongside others, will help us to develop our vocabulary and knowledge, resulting in some superb pieces of high quality writing.
In Maths we have been working hard developing our arithmetic skills to become fluent in using the formal strategies of calculating. We have worked hard on consolidating our speed and efficiency with these different methods, alongside improving our reasoning abilities. Fractions, decimals and percentages has been our focus. These will remain our focus to consolidate the fantastic progress we have made already.
Our Science topic this half term is Electricity. We will be exploring the different scientists related to this topic, such as Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison and Alessandro Volta. We will be creating circuits, discussing how they're put together and relating this to our everyday life.
